About A1 German Certificate Exam

The A1 German certificate (Goethe-Zertifikat A1, telc Deutsch A1, ÖSD Zertifikat A1) is the first level of German language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This certification proves that you can:

• Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases
• Introduce yourself and others
• Ask and answer questions about personal details
• Interact in a simple way if the other person talks slowly and clearly

Exam Structure

The A1 German exam consists of four parts:

• Lesen (Reading): 25 minutes - Understanding short texts, notices, and forms
• Hören (Listening): 20 minutes - Comprehending everyday conversations and announcements
• Schreiben (Writing): 20 minutes - Filling out forms and writing short messages
• Sprechen (Speaking): 15 minutes - Introducing yourself and having simple conversations
